Introducing UmixOS (Unity Remix)

Umix OS is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with Unity 7 desktop. This distribution is for people who miss Unity, and who are not satisfied with other desktops that try to replicate the same experience.

I spent the last 6 months trying one desktop after another, before going back to Unity. Since customising the system is time-consuming, I decided to make a distro out of it, to save time. I also made some changes to themes to bring Unity up-to-date with modern times.

Groot v18.8

Groot v18.8 is now available.

Groot is a tiny utility to chroot into a Linux system installed on another partition or directory. It is similar to the arch-chroot command on Arch Linux, and based on the same script. It can be used on any Linux distribution.

It’s useful for installing and updating packages on an installed system without booting from it. It’s also useful for fixing boot issues when a system is unable to boot.

Aptik v18.5.2

Aptik v18.5.2 is now available

I’ve made some changes to the GTK app to make it easier to use. There are now 3 UI modes — easy, advanced and expert.

The Easy mode shows a single page in navigation panel named “Backup” or “Restore”. This page has options for one-click backup (All Items) that was there in previous version of Aptik. This mode is recommended for first time users and for users who don’t want to go into the finer details of what is being backed-up or restored.
