Tony is there any way to check my hard drive to see if it’s a hybrid drive? I have been searching without much success. But I may be asking the wrong question.

Go to your system BIOS and check the model number of the hard drive. Then lookup the model number on the manufacturer’s website. There’s no way to know for sure unless the manufacturer discloses the information.

Hi I’m working with debian 10 buster with btrfs and timeshift is working excellent through the gui.
I’m trying to restore from the terminal command line INCLUDING the /home snapshot and i only get to restore the root without the /home snapshot. what am i missing? what is the right syntax to include the /home snapshot like it does on the gui?

I’m trying to make my debian do a full snapshot restore on every startup so my computer will always startup exactly the same.

    Hello,
I’m trying out TimeShift, and it looks great. However, it does not appear to be creating snapshots at the intervals I’ve selected. I chose ‘daily’ with a max of 5. After several days, it has created 4 snapshots, then stopped. A few questions:

    1. Does it overwrite old snapshots or do I need to delete them?
    2. When I invoke it from the GUI, I’m in ‘Live USB mode’ and cannot create snapshots. It seems I can only get into the mode where I can create snapshots if I reboot…what am I doing wrong?

–> I was assuming TimeShift would create snapshots periodically and simply delete the old snapshots. Is there a way to get it to do that?

    Thanks.

You’re awesome dude! I sent a donation. Not much. But as much a I can comfortably afford. I plan to do this every time I’m amazed by Timeshift. Which happens a lot! Thanks so much for creating this and making available to the Linux community!

    Hi Tony,

    thanks for providing Timeshift!

I am having a small problem: I cannot unmount the external hard disk after the Timeshift backup.
My setup: Linux Mint system, BTRFS, backup medium is an external HDD with EXT4 on a LUKS encrypted partition.
Steps: Run Timeshift, in file manager click “unmount” button, file manager pops up an error message “cannot unmount”.

The problem seems to be that Timeshift mounts the LUKS partition on /run/timeshift/backup but does not unmount it when it’s done.

Could you please have a look?

    Hello Tony,
    thank you for TIMESHIFT!
I use latest Version 20.11.1 under DEBIAN(testing) and since some daies and updates i now get this error: “ts: Failed to get partition list.” – TIMESHIFT will now only start in Live-USB-Mode!
I searched around a bit and find out, that there’s a patch for that problem, but under ARCH(AUR).
Do you know about this problem?
Thanks (again) for your work, very appreciated 🙂

    Hello Tony (again),
after doing some more research, i found out using the “sid”-package of TIMESHIFT will work as workaround for the time being!
Applied the “sid”-package and TIMESHIFT is back up again.
Maybe this is helpfull for you and other users!?!
Again a big THANKS for your work ?

    Hi Tony,
I am only able to start Timeshift via a terminal with the command e.g. sudo timeshift-lanucher
The version of thimeshift is v21.09.1. I am running a Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS. The GUI I am using is LXDE.

Can the timeshift program prompt for admin permissions if that what it needs to run in the GUI?
If that is not an option how about a shortcut on the desktop that runs some kind of script that runs
    the command sudo timeshift-lanucher?

Anyone know how to write a script or batch files like that?
